About the Eight Tracks

The Eight Tracks is an award-winning eight-member a cappella group based in Boston/Cambridge/Somerville. We mostly sing well-known songs from the ‘60’s through today that audiences will instantly know and love. But we make a point of flipping songs on their heads in our arrangements and making them sound totally unique for the eight specific voices in our group. We pride ourselves on our strong musicianship since each singer is on their own individual voice part.

But it’s not all work! We always make time for fun, too. We’re a friendly bunch of 20-and-30-somethings from all different professions with all different musical backgrounds and this group is a family for the eight of us. So, we make a point to stay involved and know what’s going on in each other’s lives. Scroll down to get to know each of us!

Meet the Singers

Diana Barlaam The Eight Tracks Boston A Cappella

Diana Barlaam

Diana started singing a cappella in college at the University of Rochester as a soprano in Vocal Point, an all-female a cappella group. She is thrilled to add co-ed a cappella under her belt with the Eight Tracks! As a future nurse, Diana spends a lot of time studying, but many more hours watching Celtics games, exploring local breweries, and hanging out with her cat, Popcorn. You can 100% catch her singing Sia songs while doing all of the above activities.

Michela Booker

Michela has a life goal of collecting music degrees and cheap, vintage keyboards. She attended Berklee College of Music and The Boston Conservatory and is now a middle school music teacher and choral director. She co-founded The Eight Tracks five years ago with her high school BFF/musical soulmate, Becka! You can also catch Michela singing the blues with her band Root Cellar. Nearly every moment of Michela’s days are filled with music and that’s how she likes it.

JC Carpenter The Eight Tracks Boston A Cappella

Jonathan Carpenter

Jonathan, better known as JC, traces his a cappella obsession back to the spring of 2003. He first heard the harmonious doo's and bah's of collegiate groups while making campus visits. He quickly forswore all other forms of singing and devoted himself to a lifetime of pop tunes performed using only the human voice. JC graduated from Harvard College, where he studied organismic & evolutionary biology and sang with the Harvard Din & Tonics and the Harvard-Radcliffe Veritones. With the Din & Tonics, he was lucky enough to sing all over the globe, from Oslo to Fiji. When he's not singing baritone with the Eight Tracks, JCis the brand content marketing manager for Owl Labs. Hoot hoot!

Ben Chang The Eight Tracks Boston A Cappella

Benjamin Chang

Ben, a local from Acton, Massachusetts, began singing at the tender age of 13 when he joined choir and founded a couple a cappella groups in an attempt to impress a girl (this is a true story). At the University at Buffalo, he was a member of the Buffalo Chips and took up vocal percussion, much to the chagrin of his friends and roommates. Nowadays, he combines his love of music and general awkwardness into musical improv comedy as a resident cast member at Catalyst Comedy and music director/beatboxer for Milk Money, an indie hip hop improv team. Putting his college degree to use, he works as a Research Associate at T2Biosystems.

Rebecca Corliss

Rebecca, or Becka for short, proudly started the Eight Tracks with high school best friend, Michela. She has eight years of a cappella experience after founding Boston’s semi-pro group Common Sound in 2008 and singing with Boston University’s all-female group Chordially Yours in college. Due to three years of singing exclusively with women, Becka prides herself for her low notes and beatboxing abilities. By day, Becka is VP Marketing at Owl Labs. Follow her on Twitter as @repcor.

Stephen Johns The Eight Tracks Boston A Cappella

Stephen Johns

Stephen started his musical journey at the young age of 5 singing for church. He graduated from Jacksonville University with a degree in Music Theatre, and spent a few years performing at various theaters in Jacksonville and St. Augustine, Florida. He moved to Boston in 2014, currently works as a buyer for Newbury Comics, and is a loving cat dad to Rorschach Bartholomeow. He would like to thank his Eight Tracks family for being an important and loving pillar in his young adult life.

Dylan Mahalingam

Dylan started singing in his high school choir. After that, he started to pursue music more actively when he went to WPI for college. Dylan took part in several theatrical productions on campus, and was also the music director of the WPI Audiophiles co-ed a cappella group, while getting his degree in electrical and computer engineering. Dylan works as a health software engineer at MITRE and an independent video game developer when he isn't recording his own music or singing with the Eight Tracks.

Dennis Wong The Eight Tracks Boston A Cappella

Dennis Wong

Dennis hails from Newton, Massachusetts where fell in love with singing through choral groups, gospel choirs, and was a founding member of his high school a cappella group. In college, he was Leader with the Colgate Thirteen where he traveled across the country entertaining audiences and learning about the love/hate relationship of road trips. After college, he messed around with a few bands as their very amateur drummer before returning to his roots of a cappella with a group called TSG in New York where he met his wife Caitlin. When he is not singing, he enjoys the gym (sorta), cheering on Boston sports teams, and geeking out over the latest technology crazes. He works at Compass as a relationship manager and finds the world of real estate fascinating!

Nicholas Chadi

Nic grew up in Montreal where he studied classical and jazz piano and sang in school and community choirs for several years. After warming up with a few a cappella projects during medical school, Nic is excited to be part of the Eight Tracks. When he isn’t making music, hanging out with friends, writing research articles, or doctoring teens with substance use issues, Nic can often be found biking or jogging by the Charles.
